Red Hot Blues are State Finalists

New Castle High School’s Red Hot Blues show choir will compete in the state finals at 4 p.m. Saturday.

New Castle’s Red Hot Blues are continuing a season filled with championships when they return to State Finals after a brief two-year absence.

The New Castle ensemble will perform at 4 p.m. Saturday Franklin Central High School against eight other small-school show choirs to find out who is the very best in the state.

Red Hot Blues (RHB) is made up of 47 singer-dancers, 10 show band members, 15 stage crew and countless parents, who all helped to propel the group’s successes to culminate at State Finals.

Red Hot Blues is under the combined direction of Shannon Harter and Matthew Hurst, assisted by Judy Hubbard. Music arrangement by John Doty and Joanna Golando.

“Thank you to all of our parental and community support!” Harter said.

Hurst said working with the New Castle Red Hot Blues has been a joy and an extremely rewarding opportunity.

“I am proud of all that they have accomplished as performers. Each student has grown in some unique and personal way from working with this ensemble,” Hurst said. “Watching each student’s improvements for his or her own efforts has been an inspiration to myself and our amazing staff and parents.”

The New Castle community has the opportunity to see the RHB competitive show Thursday night at Bundy Auditorium when the Music Department hosts its Winter Spectacular.

The Winter Spectacular will showcase the competitive performances of all the competing winter groups – varsity, junior varsity and elementary color guards, the indoor percussion group and Red Hot Blues.

The event starts in the New Castle Middle School gym at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Winter Spectacular then moves to Bundy Auditorium for the indoor percussion and RHB performances.

Tickets to the Winter Spectacular are $5 at the door and include all five shows. Money raised will go to whichever group the ticketholder wants.

RHB will also perform in the Show Choir Spectacular at 7 p.m. March 22, again at Bundy Auditorium.
