William Jesse Cowan William Jesse Cowan, 91, of Mt. Summit died Thursday, July 22, 2010 in his home following a year long illness.
He was born August 8, 1918 in Albany, Kentucky, a son of the late Thomas and Ona (Lowhorn) Cowan.
He was a carpenter and had built many homes in the area. He was a loving father and husband, his life revolved around his family. He married Edna G. (Mitchell) Cowan on March 10, 1944 in Kentucky.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edna Cowan; a daughter, Kay (husband: Carroll) Canaday of Springport; four sons, Bill Cowan of Losantville, James "Bud" (wife: Kathy) Cowan of Mooreland, Ed Cowan of Mt. Summit and Dan (wife: Rhonda) Cowan of Muncie; eight grandchildren, Robert (fiance: Cindy) Canaday of Indianapolis, Carrie (husband: David) Anderson of New Castle, Todd (wife: Kim) Cowan of Mooreland, Troy (wife: Janet) Cowan of Lusby, Maryland, Marc (wife: Melinda) Cowan of Knightstown, Julie Hoskins of Fishers, Dustin Cowan of Mooreland and Eric Richardson of Knightstown; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mae Westine of Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bryant Cowan and Carl Cowan; two sisters, Ruby Buchanan and Betty Ayers; and a daughter-in-law, Sue Cowan in 2009.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2010 at Sproles Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery.
