By DAVID RISLEY - drisley@thecouriertimes.com

One of the biggest events New Castle Fieldhouse will host this year is one of Indiana’s four high school semi-states in the IHSAA wrestling state tournament Saturday.

Sixteen grapplers in each of the different weight classes from the Richmond, North Montgomery, Pendleton Heights and Perry Meridian regionals will converge on the Fieldhouse on the all-day event which begins at 9 a.m.

The top four finishers in each weight class qualify to compete in next week’s state finals which start Friday, Feb. 16 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Among wrestlers competing here Saturday, 16 are from local high schools. Host New Castle has six grapplers competing, Shenandoah five, Knightstown three, and Tri and Hagerstown one apiece.

Listed below are the opening round and potential second round matches for our local wrestlers. Each wrestler must win his (or her) first two matches to get to the consolation round and an automatic berth to the state finals.
